Version 1.7.1 (4 September 2025)
Bug fixes
- Add-in no longer blocked by Trust Center settings - Previously, Acrolinx for Office was disabled if the setting "Add-ins must be signed by a trusted publisher" was enabled in Microsoft Office. We’ve fixed this by ensuring the Acrolinx code signing certificate is now imported into the Trusted Publishers store on the user’s machine. The add-in should now load as expected.
Previous Versions
Version 1.7.0 (10 June 2025)
This release makes the sidebar experience smoother and ensures you always get the right feedback when working in PowerPoint and Word.
Bug fixes
- Sidebar stays open when switching views in PowerPoint - Previously, the sidebar would disappear when switching between presentation or reading view and normal view in PowerPoint. Now, the sidebar remains in its previous state (opened/closed), so you don’t need to open it manually each time.
- Clearer messages for footer, header, and drawing content cards in Word - We added an info message in the sidebar when you click a content card for a footer, header, or drawing element in MS Word that can’t be highlighted, so you always know what’s happening.
Version 1.6.6 (1 July 2024)
This release fixes a couple of checking bugs.
Bug fixes
- Checking issue in PowerPoint - When you tried to check a PowerPoint file that contained an SVG file, you'd run into checking errors. This is now fixed.
-
Replacements removed footnotes - Sidebar replacements would remove special elements from your content. These included things like footnotes, endnotes, and diagrams. We've added a new error to the Sidebar to make replacement behavior clearer.
NOTEIn some cases, these Sidebar cards are "read only."
Version 1.6.5 (7 June 2024)
This release, we've made some bug fixes.
Bug fixes
- Replace all Occurrences - We've fixed an issue that caused the “Replace all Occurrences” option not to work.
- PowerPoint with third-party diagrams - In some cases, when a PowerPoint Presentation had diagrams generated by a third-party solution, an Acrolinx check would lead to an error. We've fixed this.
Version 1.6.4 (20 March 2024)
This release, we've added a couple new error messages to improve Sidebar usability.
Improvements
- Better feedback on failed checks - Sometimes Acrolinx checks fail because of structural issues in your content. Instead of just canceling these checks, we've added a new error message to let you know when the structure of your content is invalid.
- General error message - If Acrolinx can't complete a check, you'll now get in a general error message that tells you so.
Version 1.6.3 (28 February 2024)
This service release fixes a couple of bugs.
Bug Fixes
- "Replace all occurrences" not working properly - The "replace all occurrences" functionally wasn’t working in lists or tables. This primarily happened when a file included drawing elements. This is fixed.
- Error on startup - Acrolinx for Office showed error on application startup if “show add-in user interface errors” was enabled. We've fixed this.
Version 1.6.2 (15 November 2023)
This service release fixes a small bug in Word.
Bug Fixes
Issue with soft return - We've fixed a bug that affected the soft return (Shift + Enter) function in Word.
Version 1.6.1 (3 July 2023)
This release fixes a bug that popped up when you tried to check certain types of content in Microsoft Word documents.
Bug Fixes
- Issues Checking Drawings in Word - A pesky bug made it difficult to check text in and around drawings in Word. We've taken care of it.
Version 1.6 (31 October 2022)
This version of Acrolinx for Office on Windows comes with a couple of improvements that make it easier to check with the Sidebar. We've also fixed a bug that wasn't letting you accept suggested replacements.
Improvements
Removed Internet Explorer Components from the Sidebar
In previous versions of Acrolinx for Office on Windows, the Sidebar used Internet Explorer 11 components. This caused some hiccups when you tried to use the Sidebar without Internet Explorer 11. The good news is that we got rid of all Internet Explorer components. We now use Microsoft Edge Chromium to show our Sidebar, so you're back on track.
"Out of Memory" Notification
If your Word application ever ran out of memory (think biiiig document checking), you had to dig through the log messages to find out what went wrong. To make this easier for you, we’ve introduced an "Out of Memory" message. You'll now get a notification in the Sidebar if Word runs out of memory.
Bug Fixes
Suggested Replacements Not Applied
Sometimes when you clicked on a suggested replacement, the suggestion didn't get applied to your content and the Sidebar card would disappear. We’ve fixed this. No more issues when you want to use the replacements Acrolinx suggests.
Important for Office on Windows Users
Some Windows Instances Require WebView 2
This is important if you're on Windows and use Acrolinx for Office on Windows. It doesn't apply to Windows 11.
If you aren't on Windows 11 and use Acrolinx for Office on Windows, you need to download and install WebView 2 from Microsoft. This is because we've updated the Sidebar to use Microsoft Edge Chromium instead of Internet Explorer.
You can download WebView 2 from the page WebView2 - Microsoft Edge Developer. Linux and macOS users don't need WebView 2.
Version 1.5.1 (28 June 2022)
Better safe than sorry! We support your secure workflows — in other words, this service release makes sure that the Sidebar loads in highly secure environments.

Bug Fixes
Missing GUID
You can configure Windows to maintain memory integrity by allowing registered load assemblies. When you configure this, Windows compares the CLSID (class identifier) from the registry to the GUID attribute mentioned in the assembly before it loads the assembly into memory. But one of our assemblies was missing a GUID, so it didn't load. We've added the missing GUID so the check can establish memory integrity in Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Acrolinx Recognizes MIP Labels
Safety first! If you protect your content with Microsoft sensitivity labels, we've got good news. We've added the properties ACROLINX_MIP_PREVENTLABELS and ACROLINX_MIP_PREVENTEMPTYLABELS so you can exclude sensitive content from your Acrolinx checks. These properties are easy to specify during installation and work for the following apps:
- Excel
- PowerPoint
- Word

Bug Fixes
Word Sidebar Cards Grayed Out
Sometimes when you clicked on a Sidebar card, it would gray out for no reason. This happened when there was hidden text in your content or if an issue was just before a page break. You don't have to worry about this anymore. Your Sidebar cards now work as expected.
