Version 2.0.1 (15 July 2025)

The Focus We’ve fixed an issue that prevented the Acrolinx URL from being automatically set when installing Desktop Checker using the ACROLINX_SERVER_ADDRESS MSI property. With this update, the server address is now configured automatically.

Improvement

Updates to run latest Sidebar - We've made a few updates to the Desktop Checker to make sure it works with the latest version of the Acrolinx Sidebar.

Bug fix

Text wrapping issue - When you typed or pasted content into the Desktop Checker, you had to scroll to see text that extended beyond the width of the text area. We've fixed this. The text now wraps to match the size of the text area.

Version 1.1.0 (28 December 2022)

We have some exciting news — the Desktop Checker is now WCAG 2.1 A accessible! In addition to that, we've updated the editor version and fixed a couple of bugs related to installation.

Platform Support

This version of the Acrolinx Desktop Checker requires the following:

  • Acrolinx Platform 2021.12.1 or later

Operating System Support

Other versions may work, but we've tested the Desktop Checker with:

  • Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit) and Microsoft Windows 11 (64-bit)

  • masOS Monterey 12.0 and Mac Ventura 13.0

  • Linux: Ubuntu 20.04.5 LTS (Focal Fossa), and Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS (Jammy Jellyfish)

Desktop Checker is WCAG 2.1 A Accessible

We’re happy to say that our integration supports WCAG 2.1 Level A! Below is the shortcut to move to the Sidebar from the editor.

Description

Ctrl + 1

Jump to the Sidebar. Once in the Sidebar, the user can rely on the Sidebar Keyboard Shortcuts.

This is considered accurate at the time of publishing.

Updated Editor to CodeMirror 6

We’ve updated the editor to the latest CodeMirror editor, version 6. CodeMirror 6 is based on modules for language detection and syntax highlighting and doesn’t support editor mode based on mime types.

Therefore, we had to remove the --mime-type option from the command line.

Bug Fixes
Desktop Checker Was Blocked by macOS Gatekeeper

When you installed Desktop Checker, Mac would prevent the download and show a message stating that Apple couldn’t check it for malicious software. Although there was a workaround, this was really annoying. We took care of that issue in this release.

"A newer version of Acrolinx is already installed" Error Resolved

When you installed a new version of the Desktop Checker and a previous version was already installed, you may have encountered the error "A newer version of Acrolinx is already installed." We fixed this issue in this release so you won’t run into that problem again.

Version 1.0.1 ( 6 January 2021)

It's been awhile since we've shown the Desktop Checker some love, so we decided to start the new year with a stability update.

  • Acrolinx Platform 2019.08 or later

  • Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

  • macOS 10.15 (Catalina), macOS 11.0 (Big Sur)

  • Linux: Ubuntu 18.04.5 LTS (Bionic Beaver)

We've added a few new libraries to the Desktop Checker. This will ensure things run smoothly when you check your content.

Known Limitations

UTF-8 Encoding Only

By default, the Desktop Checker automatically opens, displays, and saves all files as UTF-8 encoding.
